"Simply, beautiful images." PAUL SOULELLIS

ABOUT JOHN

: J O H N B Y J O H N

Based on the island of Portland in West Dorset, John is a contemporary fine art photographer, specialising in creating abstract seascapes and landscapes - Images within images.

Having recently relocated to the captivating Dorset coast, John's island location, re-ignited an idea that had developed from his time studying graphics at UCA, back in the '80s. The concept for 'ARTOGRAPHY' formulated when he explored images of old scrap cars and ripped posters with his trusty Pentax K1000 camera.

But, it was when he wandered into a local boatyard that the idea really came to life, as dynamic compositions of weather-beaten, scraped, painted and repaired boat hulls, created the canvas for a multitude of rich, abstract seascapes and landscapes.

ABOUT ARTOGRAPHY

: I M A G E S W I T H I N I M A G E S

Integrating art with photography, John utilises the inherent rich textures, multiple layers, weathered surfaces and tactile nature of his subject vessels, to transform the ordinary into works of art that are visually stunning, abundant with ambiguity and individually unique.

"Somehow it seems only natural that vessels, which had previously sailed on the sea, would provide stunning images that encapsulate the beauty, energy, and intensity of the ocean itself."
